Brunch in Paradise
Feast in Paradise- experience a one of a kind Brunch! As part of our August 23rd event*, Guests will enjoy a 3 course vegetarian meal prepared by Kansas City’s own Patrick Ryan and KC newcomer, Chef Johnny Leach.
Ryan’s craft has led him all across the country. His talents, coupled with his natural affinity for making lasting relationships, led him to work under celebrated chef Rick Bayless at Chicago’s Frontera Grill and Topolobampo, and help open three concepts in Portland’s Hoxton Hotel with Submarine Hospitality Group. Ryan’s most recent venture and personal restaurant, Port Fonda, launched as an underground KC restaurant in a vintage Airstream trailer in 2010. Its overwhelming success led to the opening of its brick-and-mortar space in 2012. Port Fonda, Ryan’s homecoming project, has been a testament to his love for the city’s cuisine and talent for constructing a work culture that reflects his infectious, supportive energy. Ryan was nominated for a Food & Wine ‘The People’s Best New Chef’ award in 2013 and 2014 and was a James Beard Foundation ‘Best Chef-Midwest’ semifinalist in 2015, 2016 and 2017.
Defined by youthful hyper-seasonality, Leach’s Pacific Northwestern philosophy is conservative in sourcing and spirited in execution. Leach takes chances that spotlight, rather than overshadow, the simplicity of his craft. Through a hybrid of his upbringing, professional influences and Midwestern fascination, Leach’s creations will breathe an authentic youthfulness into the historic city’s atmosphere. Moving from his home state of Oregon to New York City, Leach worked at esteemed restaurants including Town, Del Posto and Momofuku. Leach’s talents have led him through a handful of timezones, where he collected accolades and unforgettable experiences, including an appearance on David Chang’s Netflix original series, “Ugly Delicious."
